Fashion in Detroit: Prophetik by Jeff Garner

Jeff Garner was the second-to-last designer to show his work for the second day of Fashion in Detroit. His clothing line Prophetik uses eco-friendly fabrics and dyes to create clothing that could look at home at a renaissance fair or a rock concert. His designs make sparse use of deep artificial looking colors and modern synthetic fabrics, and instead trend toward a much more organic look. A lot of his dresses and men’s jackets have clear roots in the American south.

Prophetik’s show was also the most dramatic of the day, complete with grass runway, banjo player, and a dramatic entrance from a vocal performer in a cloak.

Identified a Fashion Affair

On August 1st, Detroit’s fashionistas gathered in the  Hotel St. Regis ballroom, amidst the understated luxury of old Detroit for a fabulous fashion event: “Identified A Fashion Affair.” Hosted by the Identified Fashion Collective, the event showcased the work of their up-and-coming Detroit designers, all within the Identified collective. The event also featured great musical performances by Detroit-based all female vocal group BOi, and Paris “Pride PM” Terry.

This “fashion affair” showcased a diverse set of collections including outerwear, men’s suits, children’s clothing, swimwear, and women’s evening wear. Some of the highlights were some great leatherwork pieces, as well as some snazzy men’s suits.

Featured designers:

  • Pink Lemonade
  • Gina T. Collections
  • Sharon Jones collection
  • City of Champs
  • C. Granston Bullard

Summer Classics: Start Shopping!

Since genuinely hot weather is around the corner (or so I hear), it’s time to look at those summer classics that never go out of style. Even if some of these pieces are out of your budget, here’s a great start for summer shopping inspiration.

1. Jean Shorts (note: not Jorts)

I think the best kind of shorts are the ones that you feel most comfortable in. I am in love with these shorts because they are the perfect length to wear anywhere.

3. Sandals and Gladiators

I am in love with gladiators. I think gladiators can be played off as sexy, chic, stylish, and classic. You can wear them at night with a nice dress or wear them with shorts during the day.
